Project surroundings (entorno)
Entorno, or surroundings, is the set of people, companies and institutions that live with a project and feel its effects, for better and for worse. At ISBR it is the starting point of analysis: a project is only as strong as its surroundings.
More than an area of influence
Environmental studies split a territory into direct and indirect areas of influence, with limits drawn on a map. The surroundings, as ISBR reads it, are broader: they include who supplies, who works, who lives there, who depends on the same river or road, and who decides in city halls, councils and public agencies.
Who is part of it
- Residents, associations and local leaders.
- Workers and suppliers in the region.
- Mayor offices, city councils and state agencies.
- Schools, health units and churches.
- Local press.
Why it matters
It is in the surroundings that construction finds labor, that investors find support or resistance and that the reputation of a project takes shape.
The view from next door. The surroundings are usually the last to know and the first to feel. Starting with them changes the order of things: instead of announcing a decision, the project builds the decision with those who will live with it.
